Women's Wellness Retreats for Breast Cancer Survivors

For eight years, women that have recovered from breast cancer have been learning life-balancing skills and experiencing the transformative power of connecting heart-to-heart with other cancer survivors at nonprofit Grass Lake Sanctuary (GLS) Women’s Wellness Retreats. Retreats are scheduled for July 27 through 29 and August 10 through 12. Susan G. Komen Michigan and GLS donors are sponsoring full scholarships for up to 40 women that are underinsured, underserved or have low incomes. Participants will rejuvenate and de-stress through heart-opening experiences of yoga, art, Nia, healing massage, healthy food and peer-to-peer support circles.
Christine Morgan, GLS Women’s Wellness retreat coordinator, is passionate about reaching women that feel isolated as a result of their cancer experience. She says, “Studies have shown that social isolation is at the root of many of the difficulties cancer survivors face. These retreats are about helping participants connect in deeply supportive ways, releasing trauma and re-entering their lives with ease and enthusiasm.”
