Wonder Walks at Matthaei Botanical Gardens Inspire Nature Exploration

Community members of all ages are invited to experience the beauty and wonder of nature through a series of free, guided Wonder Walks at Matthaei Botanical Gardens. Designed to spark curiosity and provide interactive learning experiences, these walks offer a unique way to connect with the natural world.
Held on select Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. and Sundays at 1 p.m., Wonder Walks encourage participants to observe, ask questions and deepen their appreciation for the environment. If a large, mixed-age group is present, guides may divide participants into two sets to ensure tailored engagement. No registration is required, making it an easy and accessible activity for families, individuals and nature lovers.
Participants should gather inside the lobby of Matthaei Botanical Gardens 10 minutes before the walk begins. For Wednesday walks, guests are encouraged to arrive by 5:20 p.m., and for Sunday walks, by 12:50 p.m. Led by experienced guides, each walk offers a fresh perspective on the landscape, wildlife and seasonal changes.
The March series highlights the transition from winter to spring, featuring themes such as early-blooming plants, the vernal equinox and local beaver activity. Walkers will have the opportunity to search for signs of spring, witness the changes in the ecosystem and learn about the resident beaver family along Fleming Creek.
